LABOUR and UKIP have dealt a massive blow to the Conservatives in the Oxfordshire County Council election today in Prime Minister David Cameron's back yard.

Labour's Laura Price won the Witney South and Central division, beating UKIP's James Robetshaw by just 10 votes. She polled 756.

Incumbent Conservative councillor David Harvey trailed in third with 697.

Miss Price said: "I am very pleased. It's down to the hard work and the dedication of the people who work in the community for the Labour Party.

"I think it does send a message to the national government when Labour can win in the heart of David Cameron's constituency.

"It shows that people want to feel they have got a voice and that they are not being marginalised by politics."

Mr Harvey said: "This is national politics being played at a local level.

"I am extremely disappointed that so many Witney voters have decided to express their displeasure with national policies in local elections.

"However, I am very proud to have served Witney people for eight years at the county council and will continue to do so at district and town level."
