OXFORDSHIRE has woken to a surprisingly heavy snowfall this morning.

While there was a yellow warning of snow, most forecasts were predicting a very rainy start to the day.

Readers have reported snow right across the county - from Bicester, out to Chipping Norton and Witney and down to Abingdon, Didcot and Grove.

Mark Heelis, at the Environment Agency, said Flood Alerts have just been put on the Thames through Oxford. Click through for a list of Oxfordshire rivers on Flood Alert.

The Met Office is still predicting rain for most of the day.

And now it's all gone. Couple of centimetres tops. Roads clear. Not a problem, unless you're the press or the County Council, who are as usual making a mountain out of a very small molehill.

Did anyone actually see gritters and snowploughs (to remove snow to enable gritting) out overnight or this morning? I was out early with a farmer-friend in the more rural bits and we didn't see any Council vehicles - though as we went past the main gates of an imposing property, did see what looked like activity on the road outside the home of this prominent person - or could it have simply been the manservant polishing the kerbstones before breakfast, or maybe even His Lordship somewhat the worse for wear from the previous night?

The council obviously didn't watch the BBC weather forcast at ten last night, as that clearly showed that we were going to get some snow.I have to agree with Izzyduck, if you think that is heavy snow then you have not travelled afar. A couple of feet is heavy snow.With a 4x4 with mud and snow tyres, I did laugh at the other numpties sliding around.If you have the correct tyres, getting about is not a problem. The continet manage very well, with mandatory winter tyres.Think they should be the norm here.

Snowploughs?! There was less than 2cm of soggy, wet, unfrozen slush. You could have cleared the A40 with a squeegee this morning, or perhaps a few sheets of brand name kitchen paper.

They did not grit or clear the snow, jolly good but I think its freezing on top of it tonight, get your skates on tomorrow then......
