Call for health care unity

CALLS have been made for organisations that scrutinise health and social care in Oxfordshire to work together in the wake of the Mid-Staffordshire scandal.

A discussion about the future of health scrutiny was held at a meeting of the Oxfordshire shadow health and wellbeing board after the Francis report into fatal failings at the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Trust.

From April 1, when the county’s clinical commissioning group goes live, the board will be one of the bodies responsible for scrutinising the services provided by the companies commissioned to run health services.

At the meeting at County Hall yesterday, members agreed there needed to be joint working between scrutiny groups, along with clear, simple ways for patients and their loved ones to give feedback.
