Ex-boyfriend torched wrong car

A MAN set light to a car he thought belonged to his ex-girlfriend’s new partner.

Oxford Crown Court heard yesterday that Daniel Rodriguez, 31, of Woodpiece Road, Bicester, torched a Skoda Fabia in Abbey Road, Eynsham, on August 19.

It was used by Thomas Lillycrap, a man Rodriguez believed was having a relationship with his former partner, Xenia Carter. Mr Lillycrap was in fact the boyfriend of Ms Carter’s sister.

Rodriguez admitted arson and was given a suspended 12-month prison sentence, banned from entering Oxfordshire for 12 months, issued a restraining order banning him from contacting Xenia or Georgie Carter or Thomas Lillycrap, and ordered to take part in a thinking skills programme.

Rodriguez, who has since moved to Wales, was ordered to pay £3,000 compensation and £150 costs.

Daren Samat, for Rodriguez, said he had described the episode as “a crazy moment in his life”.
