COMMENT: Here's to our theatre, just as we like it

‘ALL the world’s a stage,’ said Jaques in Shakespeare’s As You Like It.

You won’t find anyone at Creation Theatre arguing with that.

This bold, nomadic troupe have brought high-quality theatre, including the works of the Bard, to the people of Oxford for 17 years, performing in such diverse venues as the Mini factory in Cowley and the roof of the Said Business School.

So it would have been a tragedy of Shakesperian proportions for the city if the recent funding crisis which gripped the theatre had resulted in its demise.

Clearly, hundreds of ordinary people shared that view and the £40,000 needed to keep it going has been banked thanks to their generosity.

Now all hopes are pinned on Creation’s spring and summer productions to provide added security.

After the year they have endured, the inclusion of ‘All’s Well That Ends Well’ would be highly appropriate.
