All change on Bicester's roads
6:50pm Wednesday 13th February 2013 in News
MAJOR changes to Bicester town centre roads come into force next month.
Work is under way to change St John’s Street to two-way traffic and replace traffic lights with a roundabout at its junction with Queens Avenue.
Oxfordshire County Council say St John’s Street will become two-way on the evening of March 31.
The first big test will be rush hour on the morning of April 1.
Council spokesman Marcus Mabberly said: “Extensive publicity, including a letter-drop, will be carried out locally.
“Businesses will be informed and information will be on the county council website.
“Signage and road markings will be out on the day.”
Other work includes replacing traffic light crossings with zebra crossings on Queens Avenue, and turning North Street and Roman Way into cul-de-sacs.
A zebra crossing will be put in near Manorsfield Road and pavements on the north of St John’s Street will be widened.
Overnight work on February 25 to 27 will shut Queens Avenue and St John’s Street.
The roundabout at Banbury and Buckingham Roads will reduce from five exits to three from March 31.
The £1.3m project, funded by developers, is due to finish at the end of May.
