FORMER Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes will be among the highlights of this year’s Truck music festival.

The Wheatley artist, who has six top 20 albums to his name, will play the two-day gathering at Hill Farm, Steventon, near Didcot, with his new solo project.

Other names unveiled this morning include Essex garage rockers The Horrors, who will headline Saturday’s proceedings; pop-rock band Ash; electronic-rap outfit Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip; experimental-rockers Rolo Tomassi; and local breakthrough acts Gunning for Tamar and Lewis Watson.

They will be joined on the weekend of July 19-20 by Tall Ships, Crash Of Rhinos, Stagecoach, Axes, the Social Club, Salvation Bill, Jack Martello, Toy, Placebo drummer Steve Forrest’s project Planes, The Bots, Ady Suleiman, Brother & Bones, The Computers, The Family Rain, Fight Like ApesWet Nuns, Arcane Roots, Max Raptor and The Physics House Band.

Mr Coombes’ set will be his first at Truck since Supergrass’s headlined the gathering in 2009. The band broke up the year after. The Mercury, Brit and Ivor Novello award-winner will be performing songs from his Here Come The Bombs project.

More names, including Friday’s headline act, have yet to be announced.

Truck festival was established in 1998 by musician brothers Robin and Joe Bennett, who at the time lived in Steventon. It is now organised by the team from Derbyshire’s Y Not festival. Tickets for last year’s event, the first under new management, sold-out.

  • Tickets for the weekend cost £74 from the Truck Store in Cowley Road, Oxford, or from truckfestival.com
