MOST people will look at the Government’s plan to flog off land it no longer needs as rational. And it is.
But just bear this in mind. One estimate puts the total sites on the market in Oxfordshire at worth more than £20m.
Yet one of those is the former A-site on surplus MoD land near Bicester that was earmarked for an open-door asylum centre.
That sorry tale cost the taxpayer, at the last estimate, £28m.
So, the taxpayer is selling off loads of land to recoup, potentially, a bit more than £20m when a bungled project at just one of the sites cost us £28m.
And we wonder why the Government finances are in such a mess?
