MORE Oxfordshire soldiers are expected to face redundancy, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.

The MoD said troops from the Royal Logistic Corps – which has bases in Bicester and Abingdon – were included in the third tranche of the Armed Forces Redundancy Programme.

At this stage it is unclear how many Oxfordshire troops will be affected and which regiments will see redundancies. The latest tranche will include 5,300 soldiers across the Army, and were part of the Government’s cutbacks on defence announced last October.

The 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review decreed that the regular Army should be cut by 20,000 to 82,000 personnel.

In the same announcement, the Government said 600-strong 23 Pioneer Regiment, based at St David’s Barracks, Bicester, would be disbanded by October 2015.

So far, 70 soldiers from the base have been made redundant.

Other Oxfordshire Logistics bases include 4 Logistic Support Regiment, at Dalton Barracks, in Abingdon, which is home to more than 500 soldiers and 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, based at Vauxhall Barracks, Didcot.
