FOUR areas of Oxfordshire have been hit with power cuts today.

More than 1,600 properties around Berinsfield and Benson had no electricity this morning, while there are also reported outages in the Osney area of Oxford and around Woodstock and Wheatley, plus around Standlake.

Southern Electric said a "high voltage fault" in Berinsfield at around 5.40am caused the problem in the south.

It restored power to 1,226 customers within three minutes, but 144 homes are still without electricity, a spokesman said.

The firm’s engineers are trying to restore power now.

The company had no updates about when power might be restored to the areas affected in the city.

The fault outside the north and east of the city was reported to affect Woodstock, Tackley, Kirtlington, Wheatley and Bletchingdon.

There is a new power outage reported mid-morning affecting Standlake, Northmoor and Stanton Harcourt. The company says an engineer will be out to look at the fault by 11.15am.
