THE Environment Agency has issued a series of flood alerts on rivers and brooks across Oxfordshire this morning as the recent snow melts away due to rising temperatures and overnight rain.

The alerts cover the following watercourses:

  • River Evenlode from Moreton-in-Marsh to Cassington, including Kingham, the Wychwoods, Charlbury, Fawler and Long Hanborough
  • River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock
  • River Ray and its tributaries from Shipton Lee to Islip, including Ludgershall, Blackthorn and Murcott
  • River Windrush from Bourton-on-the-Water to Newbridge, including Burford, Asthall, Minster Lovell, Crawley, Witney, Ducklington, Rack End and Standlake
  • River Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon including Stanford in the Vale, Charney Bassett, Lyford and Garford
  • Ginge Brook, from Steventon to Sutton Courtenay
  • Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney.

Flood alerts are the first stage of the Environment Agency's three-stage flood warning system and mean that householders and businesses should be aware that flooding is possible and should be prepared.
