A BICESTER school is celebrating a huge turnaround in its Key Stage 2 results just two years after it was ranked near the bottom of the league table.

Just 43 per cent of Longfields School pupils achieved Level Four in English and maths in 2010, well below the national average of 79 per cent.

Last year the school hit the national average, and this year children excelled themselves with 93 per cent of students making the grade.

Headteacher Paul Hill said the school, in Longfields had made a string of changes to ensure children were excited about learning.

Last January when children returned to school they were greeted by men in white coats and police officers examining dinosaur bones in their playground.

But the bones were a hoax organised by staff to launch the new term’s subject.

Last month the school was given a ‘good’ rating following an Ofsted inspection in November, having previously been judged as ‘satisfactory’.
