FIVE Oxfordshire flood warnings have been lifted.

The Environment Agency has removed the warnings for the River Thames in Abingdon, the River Thames and tributaries at New Botley, New and North Hinksey and Grandpont, River Thames and tributaries at Kennington and the River Thames and tributaries in Binsey, Osney and Osney Island, and the River Thames from Buscot Wick down to Shifford including Buscot, Kelmscott, Radcot, Lower Bampton area and Chimney area.

Joe Giacomelli, agency spokesman, said the flood barriers would be kept around Osney Island as a precaution.

He said: “It is an improving picture thanks to the relatively dry spell this week - we are not expecting the heavy rain we have seen over Christmas which will give river levels time to stabilise.

“But we are warning people river levels are still going to be high.”

There are two flood warnings - which means flooding is expected - that remain in place in the county.

These are the River Thames and tributaries at Sandford and Radley near Oxford, and the River Thames from Days Lock down to South Stoke, including Dorchester-on-Thames and Overy, Shillingford, Benson, Wallingford, North Stoke and Moulsford.
