UPDATE: Twelve waterways in Oxfordshire now on flood alert

HEAVY rainfall over Oxfordshire this afternoon has prompted the Environment Agency to issue a spate of flood warnings.

In total 12 waterways across the county now have alerts in place.

Ginge Brook, for the Steventon area down to and including Sutton Courtenay, the River Evenlode, and also the River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock, the River Windrush from Bourton to Newbridge, the Sor Brook and The Bloxham Brook and their tributaries, the Langford and Wendlebury Brooks and their tributaries from Stratton Audley down to the M40 near Merton, the River Ray, River Cherwell, and the River Thame and Chalgrove Brook are all now on flood alert.

Flood alert is the Environment Agency’s yellow warning for residents living near the areas to prepare and keep monitoring.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning of heavy rain, and Oxfordshire is expected to see downpours tomorrow and Saturday.
