Pensioners enjoy festive lunch with extra trimmings
6:00pm Thursday 20th December 2012 in News
THERE was tinsel, turkey and tunes as dozens of pensioners enjoyed Christmas lunch served by students.
Cooper School, off Churchill Road, in Bicester, served up a traditional three-course lunch for 94 senior citizens for the fourth year running.
Guests were also treated to carols by the school’s choir.
Students, parents and staff and local organisations contributed to the lunch and 40 festive hampers, which are due to be delivered tomorrow.
One of the diners, Mavis Nelson, 79, of The Oval, Bicester, said: “It was absolutely lovely. The entertainment was wonderful, the students sang carols and we joined in.”
Sixth-form student Owen Mitchell, 17, who helped serve lunch, said: “I was pleased to be one of the servers as it’s a nice way to help the elderly.
“I was surprised at how entertaining some of our guests were and it was lovely to see them enjoying themselves.”
The school’s business development manager Steve Cook said: “We couldn’t do this without the support of our students, their parents and local companies who always generously donate towards the scheme.”
