SEVEN Oxfordshire waterways were put on flood alert yesterday.

Heavy downpours over the weekend forced the Environment Agency to place the warnings on the River Thames and tributaries in the Oxford area from Wolvercote down to and including Radley and Jericho; the River Cherwell from Lower Heyford down to and including Oxford; the River Thame and Chalgrove Brook; the River Evenlode from Moreton in Marsh, in Gloucestershire, to Cassington, the River Ray at Islip, and also the River Glyme at Wootton near Woodstock.

Flood alert is the Environment Agency’s amber warning level, which tells residents to prepare.

The Met Office is also predicting more showers later this week with heavy rain expected tomorrow, and lighter showers on Thursday and Friday.
