New railway timetables

New railway timetables come into effect tomorrow.

Chiltern Railways is making major adjustments to its timetables as a result of a full year’s experience with its faster mainline services to try to ensure trains can cope with rush-hour passengers at stations across its network.

The company is urging regular passengers to check their journey times, due to the scope of the alterations.

There are few big changes on CrossCountry and First Great Western services, although there will be adjustments to late-night FGW services between Oxford, Didcot Parkway, Reading and London to allow for the overnight track closure for upgarding work.

For more details, see the operators’ websites, call 08457 484950, or pick up timetables at staffed stations.

Of course, now that they have hiked up their prices they'll be looking to make the timetables catch more peak time travellers.

That sounds bad Snert, could you please give an example of when they've done this?

I hope that the gentleman in last weeks story who said he would now spend an extra 30 minutes out of the house due to the changes, has torn his season ticket up and refuses to travel in protest.

What the gentleman in last week's story is missing is that it's only a year since there was a serious acceleration in the timetable bringing Banbury within an hour or so of London. He either has a short memory or is a relative newbie. You really can't complain in Banbury, you get a much better service to London than Oxford. You get proper trains with most seats at tables, and Marylebone is two tube stops closer to the West End than Paddington.

Mr Joke, that is because here in Oxford we have to put up with FGW, now if Chiltern were to win the franchise, that would be another thing.

I may be an atheist, but Amen to that!
