Police swoop on underage drinkers

Underage drinkers have been caught in a continued crackdown on under age drinking and alcohol related anti-social behaviour.

The local neighbourhood police team received information about an illegal party taking place, the Quainton Bish Bash Equivalent' in Quainton, near Bicester.

The party was organised by 15- and 16-year-olds and the event had been advertised on the social networking site, Facebook. It advertised the event as a plain and simple drunken escapades'.

All the local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) supported by Neighbourhood Specialist Officer (NSO) PC Gareth Morley patrolled the area after they found out 59 people had confirmed on Facebook that they would be attending the event in the evening.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said more than 20 underage drinkers were caught at the skateboard park with a large quantity of alcohol which was immediately confiscated and the contents will be poured away. They were also all required to provide their details to the officers.

The spokesman said: "Officers have been contacting the respective schools and parents or guardians to advise them of their children's illegal activity and asking them to help the police tackle anti-social behaviour and underage drinking by ensuring they know where the children are at all times and what they are doing."

PC Gareth Morley, said: "Underage drinking which often leads to anti-social behaviour, vandalism and criminal damage, will not be tolerated. Groups of youths gathering and drinking can be intimidating and unpleasant for other members of the community we serve.

"There is also an obvious health issue for children who drink and those that consume large amounts of alcohol. It puts their own health at risk, and can lead to consequences they may live to regret including a criminal record."

The alcohol seized was:
  • 3 bottles of wine
  • 1 large bottle of Malibu
  • 1 large bottle of WKD blue
  • 1 small bottle of Smirnoff vodka
  • 2 large bottles of beer
  • 1 large bottle of apple vodka 1
  • 5 cans of lager.
