Russell Brand is making the most of being single again.

The Rock Of Ages star's divorce from singer Katy Perry was finalised this week.

He told US radio host Howard Stern: "I'm kind of enjoying the freedom of it."

He joked: "If you've been on a diet of rice for a while and suddenly Willy Wonka asked you to take over the factory, you'd be kicking over barrels of candy and swimming in a chocolate river."

The British comedian said of his relationship with Katy that when they were dating "I thought 'I've just got to marry her, I love her so much'. When we were married, I thought 'OK, this isn't working'."

He added: "It was a lovely relationship. It mostly didn't work for practical reasons. We've gone our separate ways."

But Russell refused to divulge any details about their break-up, saying: "I don't want anything to hurt her."

He added: "She's younger than me, she's a young woman and she's beautiful and she's sensitive and I care about her deeply."

Russell, who split from the Teenage Dream singer last year after 14 months of marriage, went on to confirm he is now dating Isabella Brewster, the younger sister of Fast Five star Jordana Brewster.

"Some things in the newspaper aren't true," he told Howard when quizzed about their relationship. Howard asked: "That's not true at all?" and Russell replied: "That's true, actually."
