Firm pulls plans for green energy plant

PROPOSALS for a green energy plant in Sutton Courtenay have been withdrawn.
FCC Environment was hoping to build an anaerobic digestion facility on land off the Appleford Road, currently a landfill site.
The proposal was due to be discussed at a planning committee meeting on Tuesday but was withdrawn the day before.
Recommending refusal, planning officers at Vale of the White Horse District Council said: “The environmentally friendly recycling process to generate electricity through the use of the anaerobic digestion facility is welcomed and the ‘green’ sustainability credentials are acknowledged.
“However, the protection of the rural environment is also important. The proposal would result in the industrialisation and cumulative build up of non-essential buildings, structures, storage, plant and machinery within an open countryside setting where there is no genuine need or wider environmental benefit other than the short-term benefit to the landfill operator business.”
